Description

As schools increasingly rely on digital learning materials, ensuring those materials are accessible from the start is an important consideration. This session provides an overview of the Quality Indicators for the Provision and Use of Accessible Materials in PreK–12 Systems, developed by the National Center on Accessible Digital Educational Materials & Instruction (NCADEMI), a technical assistance center funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The Quality Indicators support state and local educational agencies (SEAs and LEAs) in planning, implementing, and evaluating systems for providing accessible materials and technologies in alignment with ADA Title II requirements.

With a focus on SEA–LEA connections, this session examines the importance of embedding proactive accessibility across the evaluation, procurement, creation, selection, and use of educational materials and technologies. It further outlines how Critical Components can guide system-level actions toward more coordinated accessibility efforts. Attendees will explore practical considerations for strengthening their current systems and learn about tools, including a readiness protocol and self-assessment resources, to support different phases of implementation, along with information about available professional learning opportunities.
