The Deep Foundations Institute Educational Trust is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2005 by the Deep Foundations Institute (an industry association) as its charitable arm.
The mission of the Trust is to support and encourage individuals in the fields of study related to the deep foundation industry by providing scholarships and opportunities to meet and work with deep foundation industry leaders.
The Trust manages several scholarship programs funded by endowments, donations and fundraising events. Eligibility requirements vary from program to program but in general, scholarships are awarded to full-time undergraduate students in excellent academic standing, who demonstrate financial need, and who are pursuing studies in fields such as civil, geotechnical, or construction engineering.
Some of the Trust’s 17 endowment funds benefit students from specific universities across the US and Canada. Other funds in the Trust make awards to deserving students attending any accredited U.S. college or university. The Trust also supports the ACE Mentor Program for high school students interested in architecture, construction and engineering.
The Trust also creates opportunities for students to see industry in action by providing complimentary or affordable attendance of DFI conferences and technical seminars via the Paul DeBruyn Memorial Student Scholarship Fund, field trips to construction sites and live demonstrations and by bringing industry experts into the classroom.
Other Trust programs include annual student and young professor paper competitions, support of DFI's student chapters, and student competitions at DFI's annual conferences in North America.
