Pediatric nursing, like any specialty, has specific challenges. The patient may be much smaller than you are accustomed to assessing. Finding veins, inserting IVs or catheters, or communicating may be more difficult. Do you get anxiety when you are assigned a baby patient or when you need to perform interventions? Pediatric assessments and interventions can be done with enthusiasm and reassurance. Your job can be easier! The patient can be less traumatized with a "one voice" approach and parent involvement.
