Tara Ambrose joined the Minnesota Department of Commerce as the Senior Financial Fraud Ombudsperson in 2025. In her role she leads the team that investigates and responds to reports of suspected fraud or financial exploitation of Minnesota seniors and vulnerable adults. Tara is also responsible for outreach and education initiatives on this critical issue, engaging financial institutions, partnering agencies and organizations, and communities across Minnesota. Prior to joining the Commerce Department, she previously led an innovative vulnerable investor protection team for a Minneapolis-based broker-dealer. Tara leverages her 20+ years in the financial services industry and prioritizes empathy and active listening in her work, often overcoming the challenge of helping a victim who is reluctant to accept that they are being scammed or taken advantage of. She is also active in her community, volunteering with the Minnesota Elder Justice Center and the Minnesota/North Dakota chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Tara is currently pursuing a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
