Amniotic membrane treatment has become more prevalent in optometry practices. This talk will go over the history of amniotic membranes, their uses in other specialties, the science, gaps in our knowledge base, and differences between cryopreserved and freeze-dried membranes. New and future eye drops using amniotic fluid or membranes will be discussed along with future considerations such as quality control, reimbursement rates, and Medicare billing scrutiny.
