Julie retired from the Columbus, Indiana Police
Department after 20 years of distinguished service,
marked by leadership, mentorship, and a deep
commitment to community policing. Her career included
specialized roles such as Field Training Officer, Physical
Tactics Instructor, Cadet Coordinator, and Honor Guard.
In 2014, she transitioned into the role of School Resource
Officer (SRO), later becoming Supervisor of the SRO
program.
She served as President of the Indiana School Resource
Officers Association (INSROA) for three years and is now
the Immediate Past President. During her tenure, she
launched the Accreditation Program, organized recordbreaking
conferences, and led critical updates to the
organization’s by-laws. Her influence also extends
nationally through her service as a Former Director for the
National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO),
where she supported SROs and school safety across the
Midwest. Julie is among a select group of certified NASRO
Instructors nationwide.
In August 2025, Julie was appointed as the inaugural
Director of the newly established Indiana Office of School
Safety. In this role, she leads statewide initiatives to
strengthen the safety and security of Indiana’s
educational institutions, drawing on her extensive
experience and dedication to protecting students and
staff. Her approach emphasizes relationship-building,
proactive training, and empowering school safety
professionals with the tools they need to succeed.
Julie holds an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement
from Vincennes University and a Bachelor of Science in
Criminology from Indiana State University, graduating
Cum Laude. She has served in numerous leadership roles
both locally and nationally, always guided by a passion
for service and collaboration.
Julie and her husband, Terance, who serves as a Police
Chief in the Indianapolis area, share a strong commitment
to public safety. She is the proud mother of Wyatt (13)
and Halle (16). Outside of her professional life, Julie enjoys
fishing and endurance sports, and she is an Ironman
Triathlete.
