Description

School safety in 2026 demands a more comprehensive approach than ever before. As threats evolve, so must the systems designed to identify, assess, and mitigate them. This session introduces the work of the Indiana Office of School Safety and highlights key initiatives currently underway to support districts statewide.
From there, we will take a deeper dive into the critical intersection of Behavioral Threat Assessment (BTA) and Digital Threat Assessment (DTA)- two components that can no longer be treated as separate disciplines. Participants will learn how Indiana has combined these approaches into a unified training model that reflects the realities of today’s threat landscape, where concerning behaviors often surface both in person and online.
This session will clarify what BTA and DTA are, why they matter, and how they work together to create a more accurate and timely picture of student safety concerns. We will also review relevant legislative requirements, outline district responsibilities, and provide practical tools and resources to strengthen your digital threat assessment toolbox.
