Since June of 2024, our team of NOAA contractors have been engaging with different groups of stakeholders from all over the United States, including the Gulf states and Caribbean, to learn about how NOAA Atlas 14 is being used and also about potential plans for the upcoming release of NOAA Atlas 15 including modeling, standardization, and community empowerment to mitigate the effects of extreme precipitation and flooding. At all levels of engagement, we have collected a range of uses and often shared these with other stakeholders to expand their possible applications for this new update to national precipitation frequency standards which will include, in Volume 2, non-stationarity, meaning it will have data for extreme precipitation projections up to the year 2100.
With this highly anticipated new data complete with web interface, our strategic communication, outreach, and networking has informed user readiness materials including a multi-modal Engagement Toolkit for NOAA Atlas 15. Learn what makes this project not only adaptable, but successful for communicating scientific data well.
