Speaker Bio
Scott Hutchings started in the door industry as a young teenager, working with his self-employed father to pre-fit, machine and install wood doors and hardware. This led him on a path in the industry that included installing, estimating and selling, project management, detailing, purchasing, specification writing, warehouse and inventory management, accounting, human resources, business financing and growth as well as many other aspects of a business in the industry.
Hutchings earned his AHC on September 11, 2001, followed by a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s degree in software engineering. He has worked for several door distributors, opened his own installation company and founded Perfect Margin Door Company, Inc, a multimillion-dollar distributor and installation company in southern California in 2010.
In 2009, Hutchings established Doorware, Inc., a software development company where he continues to work as president. Throughout his career, Hutchings has made it his mission to identify underlying principles of success, develop systems and tools to effectively convert these principles to actions and habits that lead to improvement in efficiency and effectiveness. As a president of a company with more than 20 full-time employees, Hutchings understands the challenges of employee loyalty and retention as well as the difficulty in ensuring those entrusted to vital company operations are prioritizing and working according to the foundational company principles – essentially, working in the best interest of the organization.
Over the past 20 years, his primary focus has been to identify essential principles, learn to manage tasks in email, voicemail, phone calls, in person, in meetings, etc., identify and develop tools to plan and prioritize while incorporating personal and professional goals, and teaching others how to effectively do it, too. He understands the necessity of a systematic approach to doors, frames and hardware. In his years of public speaking, he has had the opportunity to teach hundreds of people how to align actions with correct principles, develop positive habits through small but consistent changes, and work in an intentional, prioritized manner that ensures that the most important work gets done!
