Taking Action Now To Prevent Future Tragedy: A Systematic Approach to Securing Classrooms and Campuses. Schools should be a haven for the millions of children who attend them every day. Unfortunately, today’s students face threats never imagined by previous generations. Unfortunately, many schools lack the basic physical security infrastructure to prevent these incidents, or to respond appropriately. Schools and districts across the country are diverse demographically, in size and structure. Because of this, a universal school safety plan does not exist. However, the concept of the “5P’s” is universally applicable when it comes to evaluating and improving the state of safety in any school or district.
